Thomas-Yau proposed to use the mean curvature flow as a tool to find special Lagrangian submanifolds of Calabi-Yau manifolds. While Neves showed that singularities are likely unavoidable along the flow, Joyce formulated a far reaching conjecture on how one can hope to continue the flow past certain types of singularities and avoid other types. I will discuss recent progress on some of these questions, based on joint works with Lotay-Schulze and Y. Li.
