Math Union Colloquium
by Slimane Alaoui Soulimani Valenti (University of Toronto)
Horseshoe map: A classical example of a chaotic dynamical system; any member of a family of maps of the square into itself exhibiting stretching and folding behavior. Goal of the talk: To provide an introductory colloquium (intended for even first years majors to get it) on chaotic dynamics by using the horseshoe map as a concrete model to illustrate hyperbolicity, invariant sets, and the geometric origins of chaos.
