I will present on new work with Daniel Allcock (arxiv.org/abs/2609.14416) that shows that the fundamental group of the moduli space of smooth complex cubic surfaces is a hierarchically hyperbolic group. That means that it is "similar to" a mapping class group. The proof also applies to some other moduli spaces, and gives many new corollaries.
