A beautiful theorem of Baker-Rumely-Ih proves a finiteness statement for torsion-points on a punctured elliptic curves. Specifically, let E be an elliptic curve defined over a number field K, and let P be a non-torsion rational point. Then, Baker-Ih-Rumely prove that given a finite set of places S of K, only finitely many torsion points of E (defined over the algebraic closure of K) are S-integral. I will discuss this question in the setting of the Shimura varieties, and will describe joint work with Ruofan Jiang that addresses the case of function fields.
