The purpose of the talk is to describe a framework for studying big bang singularities. The talk will begin by a brief historical overview followed by a description of the assumptions. The results concern the geometry and the asymptotics of solutions to linear systems of wave equations on the corresponding backgrounds, and the main body of the talk will consist of a description of some of the results.
