In 1990 Otal showed that negatively curved surfaces are determined by their
Marked Length Spectrum, that is: knowing the lengths of all geodesics
associated to each free homotopy class uniquely identifies the metric on the
surface. The proof of this result is a blend of geometrical and dynamical
tools, which I will present in some detail.
