In this talk we will formulate and prove the Tait-Kneser Theorem and the 4-vertex Theorem. These facts are both elementary and useful. Originally proved more than a hundred years ago, these theorems still keep attracting the interests of a number of mathematicians, having lots of applications and generalizations in different parts of mathematics. In the talk we will see lots of pictures, resolve a paradox and discuss some beautiful mathematics.

Please join us for the first Graduate Student Seminar of the 2015-16 academic year. Pizza and pop will be provided to seminar attendees, by the MGSA, 10 minutes before the talk (17:20) in BA6180. Attendees are also invited to the pub after the seminar, subsidized by the MGSA. We look forward to seeing you!
